Only .docx is supported (for legacy .doc, save as .docx in Word first). Conversion happens locally - nothing is uploaded.
About this tool
Plain text is what you need to feed translation tools, run full-text search, import into another system, or strip a document down to just its words. This tool unzips the .docx (it is a ZIP package at heart) and pulls every paragraph out of word/document.xml in reading order, producing a clean TXT file.
No Word, no upload. The extracted text is shown on the page where you can edit it before downloading the .txt or copying it out. Conversion is instant, even for hundreds of pages.
Features
- Reads the .docx package directly - zero format dependencies
- Table cell text is extracted line by line too
- In-page preview, editable before download
- Instant processing, no upload, no limits
How to use
- Drop in your .docx file (save older .doc files as .docx first)
- Click Convert - the text is extracted instantly
- Proofread or edit in the text box
- Download the .txt or copy it out
Frequently asked questions
- All the formatting is gone after converting to TXT!
- That is expected - plain text carries no fonts, colours, images or layout; headings, lists and table structure are flattened to lines of text. When you need structure, use Word to Markdown instead.
- Is the conversion free? Is my text safe?
- Free with no limits. The document is unzipped and parsed locally in your browser; no text is ever sent to a server - far safer than upload-based converters.
- Why is the result empty?
- Either the content lives in text boxes or WordArt (outside the main document flow, so it cannot be extracted), or you uploaded an old .doc file - save it as .docx first.
- The txt file shows garbled characters?
- The download is UTF-8 encoded, which Windows Notepad, macOS TextEdit and all code editors open correctly. Older software may need the encoding set to UTF-8 manually.
