JPG / PNG / WebP - a clear front-facing portrait works best
About this tool
Marketplace listings want white backgrounds, resumes want blue, avatars want the messy room gone, and travel posts want you on a beach - all of it is the same task: separating the person from the background. This tool uses the MediaPipe selfie segmentation model (the same engine behind the ID Photo tool) to find the subject automatically - upload and the cutout appears, no manual lassoing.
The cutout goes wherever you want: transparent PNG to layer onto anything, a solid color (white/blue/red or a custom picker), a blurred version of the original background that keeps some context, or your own image as the backdrop. Edges follow the model confidence map with soft feathering, far more natural than hard-edged clipping.
Honest scope: this is person segmentation - it shines on photos of people and is not meant for objects, pets or group photos (it keeps the most prominent person). Fine hair strands are a known limitation, so zoom in for critical uses. Everything runs locally; the ~250 KB model is self-hosted and photos never leave the device.

Frequently asked questions
- How does it compare to server-side AI cutout services?
- Typical online cutout tools upload your photo and run large models on their servers. This tool runs a lightweight segmentation model in your browser: subject detection is just as automatic and accurate, but hair-level edges (curly hair, backlit wisps) are not as refined as server-grade models. In exchange: zero uploads, no queues, unlimited free use.
- Can it cut out objects or pets?
- No. The model is a selfie person segmenter trained on single-person photos; results on objects, pets or group shots are unreliable. For group photos it keeps the most prominent person only.
- What is a transparent PNG good for?
- A transparent background turns the person into a reusable layer: slide covers, blog headers, stickers and resume layouts all drop it in directly. Note that JPG has no alpha channel - choose PNG output when you need transparency preserved.
- Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
- No. The segmentation model (~250 KB, self-hosted) runs inside your browser after a one-time download; the photo stays in device memory from selection to export, and no image data is sent over the network - the tool keeps working offline once the model is cached.
