Only PDFs with a text layer; scanned files need OCR first
About this tool
Getting the table out of a PDF and back into Excel is a daily job in finance and data work. This tool extracts the PDF text layer and re-assembles it into rows and columns using line baselines and column gaps, then writes a standard .xlsx with one worksheet per PDF page.
Honest caveat: PDFs have no real table structure - columns are inferred from spacing. Regular tables with clean rows and whitespace convert well; merged cells, tables spanning pages and borderless aligned layouts can misalign, so review the result in Excel. Scanned PDFs have no text layer and need OCR first. Everything runs locally in your browser - files are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
- The converted table is misaligned - what now?
- PDFs carry no table structure; columns are inferred from gaps. Regular tables are usually accurate; merged cells, page-spanning or borderless tables can shift. Adjust in Excel or use the original data source - the text itself is not lost.
- Does it work with scanned PDFs?
- Not directly: scans have no text layer, so extraction comes back empty. Run the pages through the OCR tool first, then organize the text into Excel.
- Do numbers stay numbers?
- Cells recognised as numbers are written as numeric values; everything else is text. Check number formats in Excel afterwards - dates and reference codes especially.
- Is PDF to Excel free here?
- Completely free - no membership, usage limits or watermarks. Conversion runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
