Turn a whole video into one evenly sampled grid preview
About this tool
Resource sites pair every movie with a filmstrip preview, tutorial authors build index-style covers for long videos, reviewers skim surveillance footage at a glance - all of these need one image that condenses the whole video, not a single screenshot. This tool samples 4/9/12/16 frames evenly and tiles them into a 2x2, 3x3, 4x3 or 4x4 grid in seconds.
Tile width comes in 240/320/480 px: a 3x3 sheet at 320 px is about 960 px wide, ideal for web pages and chat; 480 px 4x4 suits archives and print. Output JPG for small files or PNG for lossless. Sampling points are spread across the full duration so the beginning, middle and end are all represented.
Everything runs locally in your browser with nothing uploaded; pair with Video to Image when you also need individual frames as separate files.

Frequently asked questions
- Are the sampled frames evenly spaced?
- Yes. The tool spreads the 4/9/12/16 sample points uniformly across the total duration (for an 8-second video with 3x3 that is roughly one frame every 0.9 seconds), so the start, middle and end are all covered.
- How do I make the sheet bigger or smaller?
- Two knobs: the grid (frame count) and the tile width. For web and chat, 3x3 at 320 px (about 960 px wide) is the sweet spot; pick 480 px when details matter, or 240 px plus JPG for the smallest files.
- How is this different from Video to Image?
- Video to Image gives you single frames at exact timestamps (or several separate files) for picking covers; the contact sheet condenses the whole video into one picture for previews and indexes. Same sampling engine - use them together.
- Is my video uploaded? Which formats work?
- Nothing is uploaded - sampling and tiling happen in browser memory. MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WebM and other common containers are supported, with a recommended cap of about 1.5 GB per file.
