About this tool
Text-to-speech apps want TXT, full-text search wants plain text, and ancient e-readers with a few megabytes of memory accept nothing else - EPUB to TXT is the humblest ebook need. This tool parses the EPUB’s XHTML in chapter order, extracts every word of body text, and outputs one UTF-8 .txt file with section breaks before chapter headings.
Extraction is pure text work: paragraphs and headings survive as words, while images, footnote links and styling are stripped. The result appears in an editable preview - delete ads and running heads, then download. Output is UTF-8 (BOM optional) and opens directly in Windows Notepad or any phone reader.
All parsing happens locally in your browser - the book never leaves your device, which matters for copyrighted content.

Frequently asked questions
- Will the extracted text be garbled?
- No. Text nodes are joined in original order and HTML entities decode to real characters. Titles faked with CSS (an enlarged paragraph) come out as plain paragraphs - for such books, EPUB to PDF preserves the visual hierarchy better.
- Where did images and footnotes go?
- TXT cannot carry images, and inline footnote links are stripped. If the notes matter, EPUB to PDF keeps the complete layout.
- Can I import the TXT into WeChat Read or Kindle?
- Yes. WeChat Read imports TXT; Kindle accepts TXT over USB, or regenerate an ebook with TXT to EPUB and sideload that. The UTF-8 export works across readers.
