About this tool

Downloaded novels arrive as TXT, scattered notes live in TXT - but Apple Books and WeChat Read deliver a real reading experience (typography, progress, shelves, TOC) only for EPUB. This tool packs any UTF-8 / GBK text file into a standard EPUB: fill in title and author, and chapter headings like "第X章", "Chapter N" or volume markers are detected automatically to build the table of contents.

When no headings are found, the tool falls back to chunking by line count (roughly 30 KB per chapter), so the TOC is never one giant blob. The output follows EPUB 3 and imports cleanly into Apple Books, WeChat Read, KOReader and Calibre.

Generation runs on JSZip in your browser - nothing uploads, so in-progress copyrighted novels convert safely. GBK / GB18030 encodings (common in older TXT files) are auto-detected, never garbled.

Features

  • Automatic detection of common chapter-heading patterns
  • Line-count chunking fallback so the TOC is never empty
  • Custom title and author written into metadata
  • GBK / GB18030 / UTF-8 encoding auto-detection
  • Standards-compliant EPUB 3 output for every mainstream reader

How to use

  1. Drop a .txt file (encoding is detected automatically)
  2. Fill in the title and author (optional)
  3. Choose chapter splitting: detect headings / chunk by lines
  4. Click Generate and download the EPUB

Frequently asked questions

What if chapters are not detected?
Two remedies: switch to line-count chunking (about 30 KB per chapter, TOC still useful), or check the heading style - "第123章", "Chapter 12", volume and 番外 markers are matched, usually even with stray spaces. The detected chapter count shows before generation so you can confirm.
Which readers accept the generated EPUB?
Apple Books (double-click on iPhone/Mac), WeChat Read’s import, Kindle via USB or Send to Kindle, KOReader, Calibre and Moon+ Reader all work. EPUB 3 with an embedded TOC behaves like a store-bought book.
Will multi-megabyte novels choke it?
No - a few MB of text is tiny for a browser; generation finishes in seconds. A long novel becomes hundreds of small chapter files, and the EPUB size stays around (usually below) the TXT size thanks to compression.
