Supports .xlsx / .xls / .csv - one md table per worksheet
About this tool
READMEs, docs and GitHub/GitLab discussions all want Markdown tables - but hand-writing alignment rows and escaping pipes is misery. This tool turns every worksheet of .xlsx / .xls / .csv files into a GitHub-flavored Markdown table: the first row becomes the header and the separator row is generated for you.
Pipes and line breaks inside cells are escaped so the table survives any Markdown editor. Multi-sheet workbooks get a ## heading per sheet. Preview and tweak the result, copy it, or download a .md file. Conversion runs locally in your browser - nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
- What if cells contain pipes or line breaks?
- Pipes are escaped as \| and line breaks collapse to spaces, so the table stays intact in any Markdown renderer.
- Is the first row always the header?
- Yes - Markdown table syntax requires a header row, so the first row becomes it. If your first row is data, add a header row in Excel first.
- Is alignment syntax supported?
- Output uses default left alignment (---). Change the separator row to :---: or ---: for centered or right-aligned columns.
- Is this the same as Word to Markdown?
- No - that tool converts .docx headings, lists and tables; this one turns spreadsheet files into md tables. Both are linked, so pick by file type.
